Quilters have such hope for the future! We are always starting new projects to celebrate life milestones or just to try a new way to express our creativity. I’d like to invite you to journey with me as we explore traditional blocks, paper piecing and a modern layout with Directions, a 2021 block of the month program.

Directions 2021 BOM
I was inspired by a variety of blocks that have a Southwestern flair. Come along as we play with arrows and feathers as well as traditional blocks like the arrowhead and flying geese. There is room for improvisation as the quilt comes together with a modern layout.
You might like the Ablaze block too. It incorporates both traditional and paper piecing techniques.
Program details
The Directions 2021 block of the month program runs from January through June. It is set up as an online course, but instructions will be sent to your email each month. You can refer back to the online materials at any time. There will be supplemental videos and group chats as we travel together on this creative adventure.

The Directions quilt includes five different blocks. During the sixth month of our quilt along, we will focus on free motion quilting. There are so many fun motifs to stitch in the negative space. I can’t wait to share them all with you.
Color options
The Directions sample was made with Moda Grunge fabrics in a range of colors that evoke the desert landscape that I see here in Arizona. As designed, the quilt finishes as a queen, approximately 80″ x 90″.
I’ve sketched out some other colorways… which appeals to you most?
Directions in Seaglass colors
Directions in Meadow colors
Or Directions in Miami colors? (Thanks to Julie/@floraskinlab for inspiring this palette!)
I can’t wait to get started on this exciting journey! Instructions for the first block will be delivered on January 1, 2021. But don’t worry if you have found us after that date, join the fun at any time!
