Floral Reflections {blog hop}

I was thrilled to be invited to participate in the Reflections Blog Hop, celebrating a new line of fabric from Island Batik.  I met Jennifer during my stint as an Island Batik Ambassador, and Reflections is her signature line. Congratulations!colorful stage lights portray the mood of the Reflections blog hop

Reflections fabric collection from Island Batik

Be still, my heart! There are some gorgeous blues in this collection, along with deep purple and bright magenta. There are several shades of green and I love all the geometric prints mixed with fun floral designs. Which is your favorite? You can find a shop near you on the Island Batik website.

I selected a few of these fabrics to highlight in my Tall Tulips block. It’s part of the Little Bit Different collection where I am stretching classic quilt blocks into a 6″ x 9″ layout.

Tall Tulips Table Runner

I was oh-so-tempted to make a bench pillow, but I had trouble finding a pillow form. Plus, that would involve a zipper which is not my forte! Read about my first zipper adventure here.

So, a quick pivot turned this project into a table runner. A lovely addition to the coffe table, bringing a bit of spring sunshine into the living room.

Notice the binding continues the two-color effect of the outer border. I used straight seams instead of my normal diagonals so that the color change would be distinct. This meant I had to carefully align my binding at that point and then finish on the opposite side where the colors met. It feels good to successfully complete a challenge!

I decided on some simple quilting for this project. Stitch in the ditch around the tulips gives the fabrics a chance to shine. The borders were filled with complementary designs – puffy clouds and tufts of grass. Do you think it needs more quilting?

  1. I’m sorry you couldn’t find a pillow form but the table runner is so beautiful! I’d call that the perfect pivot. Thank you so much for participating in my blog hop for Reflections. Your table runner shows off the fabrics and colors perfectly!

  2. Darling table runner! Personally, I do not think it needs more quilting on it. Love the design and love the fabric!
