The December spice, garlic, inspires our color choice of cream. Garlic and quilts don’t seem to have much in common, but they are two things I can’t live without! This is the final month of the 2022 Spicy Monthly Color Challenge and I have to thank Patterns By Jen for giving us such a treat this year.

Creamy Quilt Block
The December block is a simple collection of squares. Finding a creamy fabric that isn’t tan or brown can be tricky. I relied on my stash of neutral batiks.
Be careful with the placement of the rows because the block is designed to be offset rather than perfectly lined up.
Spicy!
The tangy addition of garlic improves almost any dish. My husband is a big fan too. Did you know there is a huge garlic festival each year in Gilroy, California? I’d love to attend someday, just to experience the quirkiness and variety of garlic-infused items. Closer to home, we recently discovered the Garden White Pizza at Ray’s. This is a local chain and we stop in for pizza and beer about once a month. The Garden White features spinach, tomato and dollops of ricotta on top of a garlic and cheese blend that is delicious beyond words.
Garlic & Quilts
I love the play-on-words that Helene Knott uses to name the blocks in her Garden Patch Cats collection. I would have loved to see garlic featured, but alas, you can only find a Kitt-ney Bean or Avo-Cat-O in that pattern. Search a little further and you can find a Garlic Knots quilt block at Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville.

I want the pattern saying “Enjoy Garlic Today”. Where can I obtain it?
Thanks.
That block was designed by a friend, Patterns By Jen, for her 2022 Month Color Challenge. You can find pattern information here – https://patternsbyjen.blogspot.com/2022/12/december-2022-monthly-color-challenge.html
