Introducing GEAR SHIFT, a new pattern by True Blue Quilts! I was inspired by Sticks N’ Stones fabric – designed by Jean Wells of Stitchin’ Post – to design a quilt for the August Try a Tool challenge.

For the August challenge, each Ambassador was assigned a specialty ruler and a specific fabric collection. You may remember my excitement when I opened the Sticks N’ Stones collection, designed by Jean Wells of Stitchin’ Post!

Inspired by Fabric
Along with the gorgeous fabric, I received the Corner Pop tool from Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Deisgn, and it was the perfect accesory to make the star blocks for my new quilt.
Signature blocks and star points were quickly cut and pieced with the Corner Pop ruler.
The instructions include a measurement chart so I was able to easily change my block sizes from the large 18″ center star to the smallest 6″ star and every size in between. I kept everything divisible by 3, since I was making a nine-patch block.
The blocks were a breeze to sew with Aurifil thread and a Schmetz needle in my machine. Then, I pieced a backing from Island Batik fabrics and loaded it onto my longarm with cotton batting from Hobbs.
I love the Arcade pantograph that I found at Urban Elementz! It complements the movement I tried to capture with the layout of my Gear Shift design.

Interesting seeing the block in the different sizes.
Size variations create such a modern feel to the quilt.
Nice quilt. Blocks look different when lights and darks are reversed.
It is a lot of fun to reverse the colors.
Love the pattern – love the placement!
Thank you! I really enjoy putting different size blocks together. It’s like a puzzle!
Great quilt! I love the unique blocks you designed for it. Have a great day!
Thanks! It was a fun project to make.
Love this! And signature blocks are a great idea for this tool; I hadn’t thought of that. Looks great in combination with the stars.
