Tan quilt blocks for August

Tan is the perfect color choice for August. After a long, hot summer in Arizona, the landscape does fade to a dusty tan. IIt is much more fun to stay inside and play with fabric! How do you define the color “tan”? In my mind, tan is a light, creamy brown. tan fabricsAs I was choosing fabric, I realized that there are some versions of tan that lean towards a pink or peach tone, while others are more grey.  You can see what I mean in this video where I share my fabric selections.

Flying Geese units

August’s block features flying geese units. Jen teaches us the No-Waste method. I love the hearts that appear after the first trim!no waste flying geese units

Pairing the flying geese with solid sections creates a dynamic block. I used this layout in my Fresh Start placemats too! Great minds think alike.

Mushrooms and Quilt Blocks

We often see clumps of mushrooms, so it was natural to make multiple tan blocks. Here are my 6″ versions.

Bon Appetit

Since the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge features a food theme, I went searching for a tasty mushroom recipe. Mushrooms are a great addition to pasta dishes. In fact, my daughter’s favorite restaurant is Noodles and Company, where I just enjoyed a cheese tortellini dish with mushrooms and spinach in a garlic cream sauce. YUMMY. I’ll have to add that to our meal plan using this recipe.
