Pretty Pinwheels {Put Your Foot Down 163}

Welcome to another show-and-share session of Put Your Foot Down. I have been enjoying these weekly round-ups to share my own projects and to be inspired by all of you. My sewing focus this week was on pretty pinwheels.

Color Dance BOM

This month kicks off a new block-of-the-month at my local shop, Sun Valley Quilts. Color Dance is a fun sampler with lots of half-square triangles and flying geese. Each participant is given a kit with the rainbow of fat quarters needed to make the lap-size quilt.

Since I made the sample a few months ago, I am making a patriotic version during the class. Island Batik fabrics are going to make a wonderfully scrappy quilt! Here are the pretty pinwheels from Month 1:

Easy HST trimming

During the class, I shared the Bloc-Loc ruler with everyone. They were amazed at how much easier the trimming job was with this great tool! Bloc-Loc rulers have a groove that sits right on your seam and makes trimming a breeze.

Here is a demo of making HSTs this way:

Stay organized

Since I am participating in two different block-of-the-month programs, and I have several other on-going projects, I depend on storage containers to stay organized.

Some people like to use pizza boxes to store finished blocks, but I like the plastic containers because they are a little bigger and I can keep my fabrics and pattern in the same place.

Mania, a quilter I have gotten to know in the Island Batik Ambassador program, made these beautiful containers from a By Annie pattern. Visit her blog here.

Mania's fabric storage boxes

That project is definitely going on my quilt to-do list! I like to sort my fabrics by size and by color, and it would be so helpful to have boxes with windows that make it easy to shop your stash.

Linky Party Time

Now it is your turn to share. What have you been working on these days?!?

  1. Hi Andi, you need to stay organised when doing more than one project at a time, especially if you take them outside of your studio. I use the plastic clear boxes that are roughly the size of a pizza box. They usually do the trick. Those home made containers are lovely. Enjoy your BOM.
