Thanks to Denise at For the Love of Geese for starting this fun gathering. Monochromatic Quilts

This week I have been contemplating monochromatic fabric palettes. Here is my latest fabric pull:

fabric selections for red pepper quilt blocks

Reds can be a difficult color to work with since the undertones have such a big impact. Red fabric leans either to the orange side or the burgundy side, and those shades don’t always play well together. In the photo above, I am making three different blocks so each vertical grouping is a cohesive set.

You can find my strategy for selecting fabrics for monochromatic quilts in this video, which features quilts from my book, Monochromatic Quilts: Amazing Variety.  What is your favorite color to include in your quilts?

Free Motion Quilting

I haven’t had much quilting time this week and I am starting to feel the stress of impending deadlines. Luckily, this weekend is my monthly sew day at a local shop. I am always rejuvenated and inspired after spending the day with quilting friends. Do you have sewing companions that meet in person?

One of my lovely longarm customers needs some floral designs…I shared a picture of her quilt last week. Here are my ideas for hexie flowers:
