Welcome to another edition of Put Your Foot Down, a place to share progress on your current quilt projects – or anything you are working on at the moment! I am buried in a pile of blue half-square triangles.

Hostess introduction

This is a good time to introduce myself as the new hostess of the weekly Put Your Foot Down linky party. Denise from For the Love of Geese allowed me to take over for the remainder of 2022, so bookmark this blog and check in each Thursday.

Hi! I’m Andi. In 2004, my mother opened a quilt store as a retirement project and I quickly fell in love. By 2006, I purchased a longarm and in 2015 we published our first book. Building monochromatic fabric palettes and combining traditional quilt blocks in modern ways are my favorite parts of quilting. You can find me as True Blue Quilts on most social media sites. Thanks for being part of this online quilt community.

Try the Tucker Trimmer!

Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design is a generous partner to the Island Batik Ambassador program. This month I am using the Tucker Trimmer to make a quilt featuring the Prairie Blue line of fabric. I will unveil my new design during the upcoming blog hop, but you get a sneak peek.

Note: some of the links in my blog posts are affiliate links. I earn a small commission if you choose to make a purchase from my link. Read my full disclosure policy here.

I found the Tucker Trimmer as easy to use as the Bloc-Loc ruler. One great feature is the reference dot showing you the full inch markings and the half-circle on the other end showing the half-inch markings.

HSTs with the Tucker Trimmer

Half-square triangles are one of the basic building blocks in quilting, and I have expressed my love for them many times. Here is a video where I show my preferred methods for making HSTs:

What will they become?

There are so many options for blocks that use a half-square triangle unit.  One of my favorites is the split nine patch and I offer a free pattern layout for a quilt featuring these units. Find it here. This month I am using the blue half square triangles to make star blocks. Can you guess which stars will appear in my new design? Leave a comment with your guesses!

  1. Hi Andi, nice to meet you! Thanks for hosting Put your foot down. I can’t imagine how your and Denise do it, as Island Batik ambassadors. Those are way too many deadlines for me đŸ™‚ I would also not be opening a quilt shop for my retirement! I’ve worked retail, loved it, but it’s way too much work. What can I say, I live to play. Looking forward to seeing more of you and your creations. Have a great week.
