Sage green is the perfect choice for our October blocks in the 2022 Spicy Monthly Color Challenge. Sage is a great spice to add to savory fall soups and it will be a gorgeous accent to our quilts as well.

Sage, the Spice
Learning about food is so interesting, but it always makes me hungry, LOL. The Simply Recipes website describes sage as a member of the mint family, used to flavor pork, poultry, soups and stuffings. I like the sound of Pasta with Squash, Bacon and Brown Butter!
Sage Green Quilt Blocks
The pattern this month is a variation on the Churn Dash (aka Monkey Wrench) quilt block. It came together quickly, especially since I chained pieced the units for all three of my blocks at once.
I adore the smaller connecting strip in the middle blocks! And, since I love to play with color, I am already plotting different fabric choices for the center to change it even more.
Staying Motivated
How do you stay motivated to complete a long project such as this block-of-the-month that takes a full year to complete? There are plenty of BOMs that are sitting in my UFO pile! But, I love this group and the Monthly Color Challenge patterns. It is a highlight of each month to choose the fabrics according to the assigned color, and then piece each delightful block.
There are only two more blocks, then we get to put everything together! That will be a fun reveal, although I still need to quilt and bind the 2021 version. Someday, I will get caught up. (she said, and the n laughed and laughed…) Take a look at last year’s quilt and make a prediction for the 2022 final layout. I wonder what Jen has planned?
