Here we are in January 2018 and I am trying to get back in the rhythm of blogging. January is a season of fresh starts, one of the many seasons of life. I have noticed a resurgence in the online quilting world of people returning to blogs after a hiatus so I guess I am jumping on the bandwagon! January is full of so many beginnings – list of resolutions, bucket lists, goals and plans for the new year…it gets a bit overwhelming.
Word of the Year
I chose VISIBLE as my intention for 2018. This is primarily a focus for my quilting business. I want to be visible in the local quilting community by attending guild events and teaching classes. I want to be visible in the online quilting world by sharing my designs on social media. This idea carries over to my personal life as well since I want to be visible by spending more time with friends and family.
Seasons of Life…in the Quilting World
January is a season of new beginnings, and in the quilting world that means new quilt-alongs and Block-of-the-Month (BOM) projects. I started the year with a Quilter’s Planner for 2018. The Quilter’s Planner has a vibrant online following, including a January photo challenge on Instagram. With the purchase of a planner, you get a beautiful magazine with 14 patterns, one of which is the BOM. We are only a week into the new year and there are dozens of completed blocks on display!
What quilt-alongs or BOMs have caught your eye? Jessica/Quilty Habit has promised to send a list of 2018 BOMs to her newsletter subscribers. I am sure to be tempted by many of them, but I am trying to keep blinders on and stay focused on my own projects. I enjoyed watching the I Wish You a Merry QAL unfold in 2017 – it really got me in the mood for Christmas! Angie/Gnome Angel is a wonderful QAL hostess and she is running several projects in 2018.
I will be hosting a quilt-along (or two!) later this year. Right now, I am busy quilting projects for my first pattern collection, to be released in March. And, I am the chair for a local figure skating competition in April, so there are lots of prep activities over the next few months. (BTW, if you’d like to support a young girl’s Olympic dreams, check out this GoFundMe page.) What is on your to-do list this week?
