Stash Enhancement 2022

Wheeee! I just finished a road trip. The Maricopa County Independent Quilt Shops coordinated a Shop Hop recently, so many of us quilters in the Phoenix area were able to do some stash enhancement exercises. Of course, that that leads to SABLE…stash accumulation beyond life epectancy, LOL.

Show and Tell

If you’d like to see the video reveal of all my purchases, watch here:

I visited these shops, and you can visit their websites to shop online too!

Stash Enhancement Plan

As I explained in this post, I like to shop with a plan. One of my high priorities was to find backings for some quilt tops. Success! I found a star-studded wideback for a patriotic quilt and a bright and cheery shade of green.stash enhancement backing fabric

When I can’t find any yardage that begs to come home with me, I choose a few fat quarters. Of course, the blues are my go-to color, but I like to find fun novelty prints and neutrals as well.

I have been anxious to make another version of my Noble Stars pattern, which is available exclusively from the Patriotic Pincushion. The shop hop was a perfect time to find some striped fabrics and coordinates for a colorful remake of that quilt.

Kits and Cutters and Patterns, Oh My!

Shop hops are the perfect time to collect those items you have had on your “someday” list. The Little Fox quilt kit was one such item for me. I have been in love with that pattern since I first saw it over a year ago. I don’t have a recipient in mind, but I am sure that an occasion will appear, and I will be ready!

Each shop that participated in the shop hop offered a product demonstration. This thread cutter will make life much easier when I chain piece units, and it uses old rotary cutter blades. I love the repurposing aspect.

(By the way, the Fat Quarter Shop has these thread cutters, and you can support my small business if you purchse one from my affiliate link – thanks!)

Another pattern that I am drooling over is Starry Night, by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I collect Nativity Scenes, so it will be fun to make a quilted version.

One last impulse purchase was a Tula Pink layer cake. This is her Tiny Beasts collection and I just had to have it. I don’t buy full collections from anyone but Tula!! You can read about the time I met her in person in this post.  Which fabric designers are you a fangirl of?

  1. My daughter lives in Phoenix but unfortunately she’s not a quilter. I never have much room for fabric in my suitcase when I visit her but I’ll check out some of these stores the next time I’m there. I love the Tiny Beasts fabric, so cute! I don’t have a favorite designer, I just like fabric!

  2. Hi I enjoyed reading about your new stash and also that nifty fox too. You did well! I always have issues with finding the right backings. Very neat thread cutter and how clever to repurpose cutter blades!

  3. Hi Andy, that sounds like so much fun. I haven’t been on a road trip in ages to buy fabric or other goodies. To keep myself from over doing it, I tend to shop a lot online, although that plan didn’t work out so well the last time since I shopped online and then drove to the store and spent even more than what I had shopped so carefully for lol.
I like having a plan too and I’m always looking for backing fabric, whether it be wide back or not. Since I don’t make many large quilts, fat quarters are my favourite thing to buy, especially cute patterns. Also, I love tone-on-tone so when I see some cute ones, they are mine 🙂
Have fun quilting up all of your purchases.
