I jumped on the Bonnie Hunter bandwagon and started her Winter Mystery 2015 – Allietare! Mystery quilts are not for everyone…you have to let go of alot of control because you won’t see the full pattern until the end. I watched from the sideline for several years, and I liked what I saw every time, so I took the plunge.
Fabric colors and yardage were announced at the beginning of November, and the first clue was published on Nov 27. I changed the red and black in Bonnie’s palette to green and blue. I like very scrappy quilts, so I found at least six different fabrics for each color. You can see my neutrals in the top right range from cream, to light grey to black and white.

Our first task was to make a bunch of half square triangles. I am making about half of the unit required in each step since I want a smaller quilt. I don’t *need* any more quilts, so my standard size is 60×70…perfect for a lap quilt and the recommended size to donate to Quilts of Valor!

Last week we made “headless” flying geese with a strip of neutral fabric along the bottom.
I am anxiously waiting for the next clue, and hoping I can squeeze in some sewing time between the holiday shows my daughter is performing in all weekend.
What are you working on this month? Whatever it its, I hope it pushes you to Enjoy, Experiment, and Excel in your craft!
Happy Stitching,
Andi
