Welcome back to the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge! This November, we are making some Blueberry Quilt Blocks. Here at True Blue Quilts, we love the blues, and when you consider all the health benefits of eating blueberries, this is a match made in heaven. To make it even more wonderful, Jen chose a nine-patch unit as the basis for this month’s block design, and nine patches are my favorite!
The Blueberry Quilt Block
Make your strip sets first. Then sub-cut and piece the nine patch.
Four units come together to make the final block.
The 2021 Monthly Color Challenge block patterns include instructions for both a 12″ and a 6″ block. I used Island Batik fabrics this month. In the smaller blocks, I changed the placement of dark and light fabric to make two versions.
Healthy Blueberry Treats
Blueberries are so yummy that my daughter snacks on them straight from the bowl. You could also throw them in a blender with other fruit to make a smoothie. Panera Bread makes a Peach-Blueberry Smoothie that tastes quite delicious.
But my all-time favorite blueberry recipe is Oat Bars.
Start with a basic crust, add a blueberry filling, then top with an oat crumble. Here is a simple recipe that I found online. So yummy! Pair with coffee for a breakfast treat, or add ice cream for a decadent dessert. Focus on the anti-oxidants instead of the calories, LOL.
Don’t forget the Prizes!

Hello and Happy November! Ooh, I like your blocks with two different background fabrics. They each speak to me and yet they look so different from each other. Peach and blueberry smoothies sound delicious – another reason to visit Panera. And crumble – who doesn’t love that?! Thanks for sharing. ~smile~ Roseanne
I had so much fun digging into my stash of blue batiks! Glad you enjoyed it.
